Heading Off The Beaten Track – Copenhagen
To head off the beaten track is one thing that a lot of us wishes to do during our holiday vacations. Famous tourist spots, often located in famous places, have been overexposed to us that it has come to a point where actually seeing them in person has become tiresome. Depending on the time or season of the year that you visit, some of these well-known tourist spots has the chance to cause you more trouble than they’re actually worth. A lot of these tourist attractions ends up getting fully booked with unrelenting and long queues within minutes on peak times, especially on school breaks. Unless you’ve been really desperate to visit one specific destination, then this may all be worth it. It may be better for you to slightly go off the beaten track if you would like a more authentic experience of a place you have chosen to visit. A great example of this is Copenhagen, one of the most well-known holiday destinations of late.
The Freetown Christiania
If seeing the way other people go on with their lives and getting our of regular civilization is something you like to do, then you have basically hit the jackpot with Freetown Christiania. It was set up in the 70s by a group of like-minded individuals not far from the Copenhagen city center and is an alternative hippy commune. After coming to an agreement in 2011, the authorities have chosen to leave Christiania alone despite the original opposition from the past. You cannot buy a house in the small town; you will have to apply for one and meet a particular criteria which is given to you, and it is also car-free. There is always a lot of things going on, from live music to excellent street food and even a local market.
No matter how artsy and quirky neighborhoods could go, nowhere in the world does it better than the Vesterbro. This area was once known by everyone for being a heavily working class neighborhood, and even famed for its red-light district, located just in the southwest of the city. This time, however, it is known as a hip and trendy place full of independent cafes, easteries and attractions. There are numbers of excellent places that you can stay in, so if you are seeking for hotels in Copenhagen, Denmark, look no further! You just have to spend a bit of time walking through the streets and seeing what you can come across.
