Los Angeles Car Rentals – Need To Rent A Car In Los Angeles?

Driving is a way of life in LA. Thanks to fewer cabs in this city, people are actually more relaxed when driving. The only obvious problem would be the amount of traffic on the roads throughout the city. Compare the amount of traffic to other cities in the US, and you will find that LA has it good. Los Angeles car rentals are a great option for you if you are thinking of taking a vacation in this city. If you want an overview of rental cars, then here are the basics:

Los Angeles is pretty much like any other city in America, except that taxis are rare. The road rules that California has are considered “standard”. But you are not here to read about that, are you? You are here to learn how to get rental cars. Well, the first thing is your record. If you have bad marks in your driving record, then you can expect rejections from car rental companies – lots of them. If you are clean, then it will be easier. Also, LA rental companies will never rent out a car to a person who’s below 21 years of age. Some even require you to be at least 25 years old to drive their Los Angeles car rentals. Also, make sure that you always bring your credit card with you, too.

Rental Rates

Most Los Angeles car rental companies charge a daily rate. Other rate options are also available for your own choosing such as unlimited mileage, charge-per-mile or per-mile over certain limits, etc. Some companies offer lower rates for weekend renting, while some offer week-long rentals. The standard that most rental companies love to offer, though, is the three-day rental period. However, with this rate option, if you exceed for more than 3 days, they charge you with additional fees. If you happen to be a member of an automobile organization (such as the AAA), then you’ll usually get a discount.

Fees or Charges

Before you sign that rental agreement, it’s important that you are notified by the company of their policies and penalty charges. Los Angeles car rentals may offer the best prices, but they certainly don’t come cheap with additional fees. Some of the most common fees that you’ll most likely encounter are the ones for renting at the airport. Most airports (or local governments) add additional taxes and surcharges to the rates of the rental cars. Some additional fees are also tacked on if you let another person drive the car. There are also child safety-seat fees. You’re supposed to rent a safety-seat for your kid if you forgot to bring one. Extra charges are also added to the bill if you don’t return the car to the specific branch of the company you rented it from (these are called drop-off fees). You’re also required to refuel the gas tank every time you return the car.

As a final tip for Los Angeles car rentals; if you have your own …

Alcohol and Drug Abuse and Homelessness

Take a look around you each and every day, you have seen the person on the street that obviously does not fit into the picture. This person will most likely be male, further will be disheveled, and will most likely carry some baggage. You have seen this person most likely today.

Did you ever think that this may happen to you? Today the economy in the United States is adding to the homeless population at an alarming rate. Situational homelessness from the economy is the same as the person who is homeless stemming from an addiction from any substance that impairs.

Homelessness is homelessness! The person that works with you that is dressed well, smells good, may have just lost his or her home due to a bad variable mortgage that exceeds what his or her income could sustain. They may have spent every last dollar from savings, pensions, and investments to try and make it work, but simply could not. The end result…Homelessness. These folks may have some family, friends etc that will take them in for their current situation merits it, however…just as it is with the people on the streets that are disheveled, dirty and foul of mood, how long will it take for the person that lost his or her home to wear out the welcome with the myriad of friends that he or she may have?

It has long been said, that guests that are staying for the holidays usually start getting moody after three days. Fish is the same way, if its not taken care of it will start to smell, and to get that smell away is a chore of the ultimate challenge.

Your best friend of 15 years, lost everything, and is staying with you, but after day three, he or she you find out is not a clean freak as perhaps you are, you find out that he or she, loves to watch cartoons, and you are the news channel junkie, and guess what…there is only one TV. Eventually there will be a significant problem, and your guest will be either asked to leave or volunteer to, but none the less both parties will have a permanent mark on that friendship.

Here is where it gets interesting. In this authors opinion, every single homeless person has a story, in most of the individuals I have spoken to, they started their homeless career after a death of loved one, loss of job, or medical issue, and only as of recently, a very bad variable rate adjusted mortgage.

Friends play a large part of the homeless cause and effects. Eventually each and every one of us will know someone, perhaps immediate family, co-worker, friend of friend, it does not matter, you will know of at least one person that went homeless. What you do as friend or family, will forever impact the person that is fresh from losing everything, whether at-first you help them, and you later give them the boot, it will …

Driver Faces Felony Charges After Fatal Yuba City, California Drunk Driving Accident

A Yuba City, California driver can expect to be charged in connection with a drunk driving accident in which two of his close friends were killed.

The accident that occurred on Highway 99 near Live Oak, California on November 16th, is just one more reminder of the needless risks we take with the lives of those closest to us when we drink and drive. The driver in this car crash, 20-year-old Abdul Umar Hay, was returning from an all-night party with his friend Rafael Courtland Walker and Matthew Stephen Fair. Initial reports say that Hay must have dozed off at the wheel, causing the car to zip though a stop sign. A short while later, it was broadsided by a Ford Explorer. The impact of the crash caused Hay’s car to be pushed over into a nearby orchard. Both Walker and Fair were declared dead at the scene of the car accident. Both were 20-years-old.

Hay was the only survivor, and was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. He can now expect to be charged with felony vehicular manslaughter and felony driving under the influence causing injury. He doesn’t have a previous criminal record, but could be looking at a minimum of 6 months in prison, if found guilty.

The reactions of Walker’s and Fair’s parents were a study in contrast. Fair’s father remains indignant at the thought of a six-month sentence for the man he holds responsible for killing his son, while Walker’s mother, who is a member of MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving), insists that prison time is not an appropriate sentence. Last Friday, the families of the two victims took part in a memorial service that celebrated their lives.

You have to understand Richard Fair’s anger. Matthew was his only son and whether the two victims in the car had also consumed alcohol or not, the fact is that only Hay was in charge of driving them home. At 20, Hay is looking at an irredeemable stain on his record. This young man has a lifetime ahead of him, and has voluntarily cast a pall over his ambitions and his future through his negligent actions. Hay will have to deal with a lifetime of guilt for the deaths of his two friends.

Underage drinking continues to be a problem, and is cited as a factor in too many California drunk driving accidents for us to take any debate on lowering the drinking age seriously, as proposed by many college deans. What’s needed to tackle the problem is not lowering the drinking age, and giving every 18-year-old in California carte blanche with alcohol, but a joint effort by parents, college administrators as well as the community. In Yuba City, for instance, many parents including Walker’s mother, Jean Hammonds, believes that the area just doesn’t offer enough recreation opportunities for the young to let off steam. The result is underage drinking binges like the one that took place here, and the tragic drunk driving accidents that result from these.…

Unique Destinations in the US for Less

Talk to the modest traveler as to where in the United States they would most likely want to visit and you are likely to hear Orlando, New York, Las Vegas and San Francisco.   Big cities with big attractions have always been the staple of good, exciting vacations.    For the lesser known vacation spots such as Arkansas, Texas and Illinois; is it possible to find as exciting a vacation?  I ventured to find out the answer to this question; and what I found was a pleasant surprise to me.

Indian Harbour Beach, Florida is probably not the first, (or a last stop for most) when you venture to the sunshine state.  Places like Daytona, Miami, even Key West take the bill here.  Known as the ‘Greatest Little City in Florida”, Indian Harbour Beach is in Brevard County, Florida along the coastline, offering everything that a relaxing vacation epitomizes.   Close to Orlando and to Kennedy Space Center it is a liaison between a quiet escape and excitement.   Just minutes from the Melbourne International Airport, this spot is perfect for getting away from the everyday.  I also have found the best hotel deal anywhere around Indian Harbour.  The Lexington Hotel is offering a 3 day/2 night package for $97/nt.  Including deluxe accommodations for 4 and a $20 credit to Doubles, their on-site restaurant, this is the classic definition of a “diamond in the rough”.

Another not so well known vacation spot is located in Illinois and has some of the most beautiful settings on the bluffs, high above the Rock River.   “The Forest City” as it is beloved known; Rockford is an integral park of the Rockford metro area.  Experience any of the 50 excellent national golf courses or stay in touch with nature with a tour of the Anderson Japanese Gardens, which has been ranked the top Japanese garden in North America.   I was lucky enough to stay at the Cliffbreakers Riverside Resort which was located inside of 12 miles from loads of attractions, right on the Bluff overlooking the river.  With prices starting at $129/nt, this is an affordable way to catch the wonderful sites of Illinois.

Of course, Illinois and Florida could be two places that vacationers might rank high on their list, but Arkansas?  At first glance, I couldn’t believe that this was going to make my list of out of the ordinary places to visit, but then I found Hot Springs I started to change the way that I viewed this state.  Hot Springs is the 10th most populated city in Arkansas and as the name inclines is known for national spring water.   The city hosts a number of art shows such as the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival and the Hot Springs Music Festival.   Other events include the Hot Springs Jazz Festival held in September and the downtown Bathtub Races in the Spring.   It holds the number 4 position of the “America’s Top 100 Small Arts Town.”   They also have a Racetrack and Casino which, lucky for …

Founder of Second Chance Program Attacks Recidivism With Drug Rehab While Cultivating Self Respect With Inmates

Rick Pendery has spent the last 30 years working in substance abuse programs and feels that he’s got the keys to reduce recidivism.

Rick Pendery founded and ran a six year pilot of the Second Chance Program in Ensenada and Tijuana, Mexico as well as another pilot in for nearly two years in Puerto Rico. The Second Chance Program freed over 6000 inmates from the interminable treadmill of drug addiction that leads to more crime and re-incarceration. He has now successfully opened a 600 bed secure rehabilitation facility located in the vacated Westside Jail west of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

His road as a substance abuse expert began in the 70s when he worked first in a methadone clinic. But there he saw too many people walk out of the clinic, into the parking lot and buy heroin. This treatment was clearly ineffective. Looking around, Pendery came across a program called Narconon. This program he found to be very effective. Working with them for several years he became the chief administrator for a Narconon Program, in El Paso Tex. Later he was promoted to be the Executive Director for the program and eventually became the senior administrator over 30 Narconon programs in the US.

Narconon uses the Drug Rehabilitation Technology developed by L. Ron Hubbard. The program has a drug-free withdrawal step, a sauna detoxification step and an additional life skills training section with courses in communication, remedial education. Also, it has classes specifically designed to help the individual understand the reasons why he started using drugs and giving him tools to combat the urge to use drugs in order to live a drug-free life. Pendery feels that these steps together cultivate self respect in these former addicts.

Pendery started his first Second Chance Center in the mid 90’s. He explains why, “I saw two things occurring. Drug use seemed to be generally growing and the crime rate in many categories was increasing as well. The number of people incarcerated almost doubled in 1990s and because of this, the budgets for the Department of Corrections were starting to bankrupt our states. I had previously run a successful drug rehab program called Narconon, which was both effective in reducing recidivism as well as was able to scale up to where it could economically deliver to large numbers of people at once. I felt that this approach was particularly suited to the criminal justice system where they had approximately 80 percent of incarcerated offenders with prior drug histories. With over 2 million people currently incarcerated in the United States it’s been cost prohibitive for those offenders to get rehabilitated in that system. According to the US Dept of Justice, the stats shows that over 65{bb248b365451375cae95cbd497b3c598d5b16f8829e7d6139daa8093dca7be13} of those who have been incarcerated, within three years, return to prison. I wanted to bring a workable drug and criminal rehab program to the criminal justice system.”

Pendery found more ways to assist his communities as a real estate developer. He had begun that career in the …

Travel Before You Marry – 5 Reasons Why

Traveling is encouraged all around the world, and especially in Europe. There are very cheap flights to and from Europe, so people will never hesitate about traveling from place to place. This is especially true for young travelers, because it makes affording a trip very easy, since the cost is close to nothing. Many older people travel to get away and have a beautiful vacation, but younger travelers are usually looking to explore the world and learn more about other countries´ cultures, backgrounds, and day-to-day routines. Traveling at a young age is important, which is why I believe that traveling before you get married is something that should be taken into consideration. There are many different reasons to explore the world before you get married, but I am going to provide you with five, to give you an idea of why traveling at a young age is so important.

1. Making sure you see other parts of the world before settling down with someone can be very important. When you are entering a marriage you are committing yourself to your partner. If you are a curious young adult, you may be wanting to travel somewhere your partner does not want to go.  If they do not want to travel with you to a different country, chances are they do not want you to travel there without them. This can lead to complications that can eventually cause you to forfeit your traveling opportunities.

2. Upon getting married, you might have to adjust to a different lifestyle than you had previously had. Aside from being committed to your partner, you also need to be committed to a stable career to support each other. Most young adults have to make an extra effort to start building their career when starting out fresh at a new job, so this can require them to dedicate all their time and effort to work. If this is your case, you may put off travel until later in life and miss out on opportunities you could take advantage of.

3. The third reason to travel before you get married is to get an idea of what different countries or areas have to offer. If you are thinking about settling down in the near future, you should find a place where you would like to start your new life. Visiting different places can provide you with a good idea of the area where you would like to settle down and start a family.

4. Next, and this reason relates to the previous one, you should make sure you are happy where you are. Traveling to different places can sometimes provide you with the assurance that you are happy at your current residence. Some places are better left out of your life and some should be left for vacationing.

5. Finally, a very important reason to travel before marriage is that you will have less responsibility. The hardest time to travel is when you have a family in the making. …

Depression Mantra Yoga and Meditation

Depression is the most prevalent of all the emotional disorders. This may vary from feelings of slight sadness to utter misery and dejection. It brings together a variety of physical and psychological symptoms which together constitute a syndrome.
Depression is the most unpleasant experience a person can endure. It is far more difficult to cope with than a physical ailment. The growing complexities of modern life and the resultant crisis, as well as mental stress and strain in day to day living, usually leads to this disorder. It also arises out of the monotony and drudgery of a daily routine, without any meaningful variation in urban life. Suicide is the major risk in extreme cases of depression.
It is not always easy to diagnose depression clinically. The most striking symptoms of depression are feelings of acute sense of loss and inexplicable sadness, loss of energy and loss of interest. The patient usually feels tired and lacks interest in the world around him. Sleep disturbance is frequent. Usually the patient wakes up depressed at 4 or 5 in the morning and is unable to return to sleep. Other disturbed sleep patterns are difficulty in getting off to sleep on going to bed at night, nightmares and repeated waking from midnight onwards.
The patient often suffers from guilt, oppressive feelings and self-absorption. Other symptoms of depression are : loss of appetite, gidiness, itching, nausea, agitation, irritability, impotence or frigidity, constipation, aches and pains all over the body, lack of concentration and lack of power of decision. Some persons may lose interest in eating and suffer from rapid loss of weight while others may resort to frequent eating and as a result gain in weight.
Cases of severe depression may be characterized by low body temperature, low blood pressure, hot flushes and shivering.
The external manifestations represent a cry for help from the tormented mind of the depressed persons. The severely depressed patient feels worthless and is finally convinced that he himself is responsible for his undoing and his present state of hopeless despair.
Depleted functioning of the adrenal glands is one of the main causes of mental depression. Irregular diet habits cause digestive problems and lead to the assimilation of fats. An excess of carbohydrates like cereals, white sugar, coffee, tea, chocolates and comparatively less quantities of vegetables and fruits in the diet may result in indigestion. Due to indigestion, gases are produced in the digestive tract, causing compression over the diaphragm in the region of the heart and lungs. This in turn, reduces the supply of oxygen to the tissues, which raises the carbon dioxide level, causing general depression.
The excessive and indiscriminate use of drugs also leads to faulty assimilation of vitamins and minerals by the body and ultimately causes depression. The use of aspirin leads to deficiencies of vitamin C and antacids can cause deficiencies of calcium and vitamin B. Diabetes, low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) and weakness of the liver resulting from the use of refined …

The Redneck Riviera: a Great Vacation Spot

France and Spain have the Costa Del Sol and Riviera. Rednecks have the Emerald Coast and the Redneck Riviera, stretching around to arguably the sexiest city in America, New Orleans. Starting from the Apalachicola area in Florida (that’s the bump between the Panhandle and the bend toward the south on the Gulf Coast) and wrapping around to the Louisiana shores, the Redneck Riviera boasts every imaginable playground for country boys and girls. Described by some as Mardi Gras with a beach, the Redneck Riviera is a great place to vacation, bikini-watch, surf, or just watch the sunset in a beach chair.

A small taste: deep-sea fishing, shallow river fishing (boat or fly or whatever you love), every imaginable watersport, , military museums and the Blue Angels precision flying team, white sand beaches lined with fantastic bars and nightclubs, and tons of historical spots, good golf, and nearby attractions like Disneyworld. Some of the best places along the Redneck Riviera to stay include:

Destin, Florida, is the premier Florida destination for Spring Breakers, and it should be. A combination of incredible beaches and excellent bars and hangouts provide the best beach singles strip for hundreds of miles, and you’re guaranteed in the non-Spring Break season to find good deals on beachfront condos as well as lots of great restaurants with world-class food priced for your wallet. Just a few miles away, Sandestin provides a more upscale vacation experience, including a world-class golf course. Oh, and did I mention Destin is called the World’s Luckiest Fishing Village? Destin is renowned for its great deep-sea fishing, and you’ll find it easy to charter a boat to go out and catch that marlin.

Pensacola Beach is built on the barrier island off Pensacola, a military town. Because the community is designed to appeal to tourists and young military personnel (Navy and Air Force), you’ll find lots of singles hangouts, mostly filled with other tourists (the locals generally go over to nearby Navarre or to Gulf Breeze for bar crawling). The Blue Angels put on regular air shows here as well as impromptu practices, and the naval aviation museum is unbeatable if you love military aircraft. The Pensacola area is also great for blackwater canoeing, where tea-colored rivers flow gently out into the Gulf. Don’t trust maps here; ask a local. Hurricane Ivan a few years ago tore up parts of the island, and not all roads go where they claim.

Gulf Shores, Alabama is as far west as you can go and see those wide, protected beaches. Beyond here, the barrier islands that surround and protect Florida’s coast end are washed away by the wide Mississipi delta. This is a great golfing destination, but is also perfect for just relaxing and sitting in the sun with a margarita listening to some Jimmy Buffett.

Dauphin Island is just off Gulf Shores, and is filled with stilt-constructed homes designed to avoid storm surges that come every year during hurricane season. Like Pensacola, Dauphin Island has taken …
